Danielle Spitzer
Developmental Biologist and Educator

I'm a fourth year Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley, working in Iswar Hariharan's lab. I use genetic tools to investigate how cell adhesion molecules contribute to the growth and survival of epithelial cells in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster.

I am passionate about undergraduate education and believe that evidence-based, student-centered pedagogy is the key to promoting learning, fostering a love of biology in my students, and reducing educational inequity and injustice. I plan to pursue a career in higher education as a professor in a teaching-focused position.
