After a few weeks of my ant study, I returned to South Camp to say goodbye to the film crew and 2 other girls who were leaving the forest for good. We decided to throw a big going away party for everyone and thought the theme gangster party would be funny and easy to do.
This was definitely my favorite party since I was in charge of decorating. I insisted that everyone put aluminum foil on their teeth to serve as fake grills and look as rough as they could. The costumes were awesome and everyone participated. I collected as many spare head torches as I could and hung them from the ceiling on the strobe setting, to create a party atmosphere and supplied a whole play list of American rap , which the assistants who could not understand English enjoyed. The party ended with a rap off between South Camp and East Camp and came head to head at the end. When the party ended we all sat around the table and just enjoyed each others company for the last time. The next morning the guys were up and about packing up all of their equipment. Lucky for us, they left of most of their food which included some cheese, pasta, crackers and cereal. When it was time to say goodbye I felt a little lost and anxious for their departure. The had come to be like brothers to me and I got use to their presence. I could not imagine life at camp without them. Apart from their great company, they had also made me feel safe since my attack and now that they were leaving I felt exposed. Alex took their departure hard as well and cried as we were hugging goodbye. The guys were happy to be leaving and were anxious to get on the way. When they were out of sight we were shocked by how empty the camp looked and felt. That night there was no music, no lights, no movie, no wine, just an empty dark area.
