This morning, as we were headed out on our game drive to find some elephants, we screeched to a stop when a hyena carrying a huge piece of meat ran right in front of us and across the road. We decided to follow him and were not alone as other hyenas showed up and were also following this hyena. For a moment we thought we had lost the hyenas until we came upon this small opening in the bush next to the road and saw the hyena with the large piece of carcass in its mouth. Since we happened to know where the hyena den was, we drove up ahead and met the hyenas there, but when they came to the den they walked straight into the hole in the ground and disappeared. The only sounds we could hear were of the young cubs whining for food.
